Upgrading your Theme

by matteo in Blog, How To 0

Keeping your theme updated is important – we would say VITAL today to keep your site 100% working. The Web is a complicated beast, upgrading is the only way to keep things neat and tidy.

Easy upgrade – standard users

If you didn’t touch the theme core files, as 90% of the users, you can safely upgrade – LTE personalizations, theme presets and settings will not be affected.

Before starting, please take a minute to backup your theme. It should not be necessary, but it is always a good idea to backup.

Then, go to the versioning board, and download the latest version of the theme.

Now just replace the theme folder, inside the

/wp-content/themes

folder using your FTP – that’s it. Make sure you don’t get any error and that the transfer finishes successfully.

Manual update / hotfix for geeks who customized the core files

If you have modified the PHP core files of the theme, and you don’t want to lose your work, you should at least apply this hotfix, or some theme functionalities may be broken due to a jQuery update.

Open the functions.php file in your theme folder, and replace:

http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js

with:

http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.0/jquery.min.js

That’s it.
